A New Push for European Democracy
The Research
This policy report looks into the European Union's response to democratic backsliding in EU Member States. The following research question(s) have guided this team’s investigation and corresponding policy proposals: What are some possible shortcomings of the current EU proposals to curtail democratic backsliding? How can the EU framework best be strengthened, improved, and/or supplemented? We propose that current measures can be complemented with a bottom-up approach, specifically focusing on civil society engagement.
